My application for promotion in 1896 was recomended
by the then Director of Public Works, Hon. F. A. Cooper, in his minute dated 21st. October, 1896, in c.8.0.2437/1896,
and later on I was notified that it had been noted at the
Colonial Office and would be considered when vacancies
occurred.
Unfortunately nothing appears to obtain and I still
remain in the same post as Superintendent of Accounts,
Correspondence & Stores, the duties of which have been
increasing with the growth of the Department.
I can look for no promotion in this Department as the
higher positions are of a technical nature and outside of
the Department the outlook is not very encouraging.
My record of Service is as follows:-
1891. 3rd. March.
W
1894.

Joined as Chief Accountant, Public
Works Department, and remained so till 1st.
January, 1894, when the correspondence &
Store Branches were attached to the Accoun-
ting Branch and the three placed under my
charge. The placing of one officer, instead
of three, in charge of the three Branches
resulted in an annual increase to my own
income of $600 per annum and a net annual saving to Government of $3,300.00.
Secretary to the Commission on the housing
of the Chinese.
1902, May to j Acting Government Assessor.
